Maruti Vitara Brezza is the best-selling compact SUV in the market. The S-Cross too has seen decent success. Both of these are currently powered by a 1.3-liter Fiat-sourced diesel engine, which is soon going to be discontinued the implementation of BSVI norms.
Sales of the Brezza as well as S-Cross have declined over a period of time. The 1.3-liter diesel engine is unlikely to continue with new BSVI norms. To overcome this, one of Maruti's official has confirmed the new 1.5-litre K Series petrol mild-hybrid motor for both these cars by late 2019 or early 2020. The new engine produces 106bhp and 138Nm of power and torque. It is mated to 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic unit. It is already on offer with Ciaz, Ertiga, and XL6.
Pricing for the petrol variants will be less than that of diesel variants. This petrol motor will be BSVI compliant. However, it is not yet known whether diesel will be sold till it's a deadline of April 2020 or discontinued early.
Non-BSVI vehicles will not be registered post 1st April 2020 hence, Maruti could also aim at liquidating the inventory of BSIV models.
It will surely be a good idea to look for a diesel Brezza or S-Cross as there will not be any issue in spare parts for at least 10-12years considering the number of units sold already and will also be available at heavy discounts for over ₹1lakh which will make it a better value for money package.
